Toilet Handle (running repair)

The toilet handle is definitely one of the bits of kit most taken for granted and one that we use during nearly every day of our lives. It is probably the most used item in any home, building, or just about any structure you care to think of. It is inevitable that they will become very tired and in a lot of cases actually give up and fail completely. A Twickenham Plumber is qualified to carry out all plumbing work. Below is a short description how to refurbish the humble little toilet flush and give it a few more years. Or I suppose you could just buy a new one! Take a handle that is just about ready to fail. Because it is tired it will affect the flushing action, frustrating everyone who comes to use it. Twickenham Plumbers can supply and fit all WC equipment even a new handle. Isolate the water supply to the toilet by turning the shut-off valve handle clockwise. Close the toilet seat, empty the cistern of its water by flushing, then wipe out the cistern with some old cloths and remove it. Be careful with this item as it can crack and it is quite expensive to replace. Find the metal nut that sits directly behind the toilet handle in the cistern. The lever shaft is reverse-threaded and features a plastic washer held tight by the nut. Reversing the thread on something prevents it loosening with time and constant operation because it moves in the same direction as the threads. Use an adjustable wrench to tighten the nut until snug. Try not to use excessive force as this can crack the tank and as stated before this is a very expensive mistake. Now try the handle by pressing down and adjust as required for the optimum operation. Turn the water back on and check the job. Test flush.
